Q&A

Most frequent questions and answers

During my fellowship training in breast cancer and melanoma, I met so many young patients with young children. I saw how they felt the need to hide their diagnosis of cancer from their children and how much stress this caused them. When they eventually decided to share the truth about what they were going through with their children, I witnessed how much they struggled start the conversation and hence I wrote this book as way to help facilitate that discussion.

I hope this book serves as a starting place for parents and children to talk about a diagnosis of cancer. I hope parents will feel comfortable speaking to their children after reading them this book, and I hope children will feel comfortable asking questions to their parents about their diagnosis of cancer.
As a medical oncologist I see many patients who try to hide their diagnosis of cancer from their children and families and this creates a lot of stress and anxiety for them. Also, as a mom myself, I appreciate the power of books as a way to communicate stories and important messages to our little ones.
